Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Farish, N. Nuratau Ridge. P.N. Podkopaev et al., 1964.

Lithology and Thickness

Uneven alternation of conglomerates, sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), and less frequently, gravelites. Coarser clastic varieties tend to the lower parts of the section; in the middle and upper parts, sandstones predominate. "Exotic" limestone bodies are associated with the lower and middle parts of the section. The rocks are variegated in greenish-gray, bluish-green, and brownish-red colors (Usmanov et al., 1999). Thickness is more than 1000 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies transgressively on the Shavaz Fm volcanites (and on the Mikhin Fm)

Upper contact

It is overlain by Quaternary formations.

Regional extent

Along the northern foothills of the North Nuratau ridge, Pistalitau and Khanbandytay mountains.

Fossils

Limestone fragments and pebbles contain numerous Silurian and Lower-Middle Carboniferous organic remains.


Age 

The Permian age is accepted based on the correlation of the suite deposits with Permian red-colored molasses of Southern Fergana (Tuleikanskaya suite) and finds in the suite rocks of Calamites gigas Brongn., which occurs in Permian deposits of other regions. P.N. Podkopaev et al. (1964) considered the Farishk Fm to be Late Carboniferous-Early Permian; R.R. Usmanov et al. (1984, 1999) regard the suite deposits as post-collisional upper red-colored Permian molasses; A.K. Bukharin et al. (1990), A.S. Masumov et al. (291), in the Stratigraphic Lexicon (443) consider the age of the suite to be Late Moscovian; V.P. Vashchenko et al. (1992) assign it to the Late Carboniferous-Early Permian; on the State Geological Map-500 of Uzbekistan (460) it is referred to the Permian. The age requires clarification.
